Description
The American black bear (Ursus americanus) lives in fragmented populations from Alaska to Mexico. As an omnivore, it feeds on plants, berries, insects, small vertebrates and carrion. Black bears can grow up to 1.80 meters tall and weigh more than 136 kilograms. They are excellent climbers and can reach running speeds of up to 40 km/h.
