Description
The sable antelope belongs to the bovid family and inhabits the wooded savannahs of East and South Africa. Both males and females have horns, with females typically being smaller and slimmer than males. In the wild, their average life expectancy is about 19 years.
Sable antelopes feed mainly on grasses and leaves, but also regularly visit salt and mineral licks - natural places where salt and minerals are found. They live in herds that often consist of 10 to 30 females and one dominant male, the so-called bull.
