As a carnivore, the wolf hunts its prey independently, occasionally steals prey from other predators, or feeds on carrion. Its exceptional sense of smell helps it effectively track down prey.

Gray wolves are extremely social animals that live in packs. Typically, these packs comprise 5 to 9 members who work closely together and exhibit a clear hierarchy.
