Item Description

This molar comes from a cave bear (Ursus spelaeus), which evolved from the Deninger Bear about 500,000 years ago. The tooth, found in Styria, Austria, dates back to the Pleistocene and is a testament to this impressive species, which lived exclusively in Europe.

During its evolution, the cave bear transitioned from an omnivore to a herbivore. Standing upright, it reached a height of over 3.5 meters and weighed between 600 and 1200 kg. The species became extinct approximately 27,800 years ago, likely due to food shortages during the long Ice Age periods.
