Real Cave Bear Upper Jaw
Item Description
This molar comes from a cave bear (Ursus spelaeus), which emerged from the Deninger bear approximately 500,000 years ago. The tooth, found in Styria, Austria, dates back to the Pleistocene and is a testament to this impressive species that lived exclusively in Europe.
During its evolution, the cave bear developed from an omnivore to a herbivore. Standing upright, it reached a height of over 3.5 meters and a weight between 600 and 1200 kg. The species died out approximately 27,800 years ago, presumably due to food shortages during the long Ice Age periods.
