Description
The reindeer, also known as the caribou in North America, is a fascinating representative of the deer. A special feature of reindeer is that both males and females have antlers - a rarity among deer species. The antlers of the males can be up to 1.2 meters wide and are used primarily to impress or drive away rivals during the mating season. Females use their smaller antlers mainly to secure feeding grounds in winter. The animals shed their antlers every year and grow new ones, which shows their impressive adaptability.
