Real Pelican Egg

Pelicans are large water birds that are particularly notable for their distinctive throat pouch, which they use to scoop fish out of the water. They live in colonies along coasts, lakes and rivers on every continent except Antarctica. Pelicans are excellent flyers, use thermals for energy-efficient gliding and often display impressive group hunting. Their social nature and ability to work together make them fascinating inhabitants of the waters.

Pelican eggs are oval and whitish with a slightly rough surface. A clutch usually consists of 1-3 eggs, which are laid in simple nests made of twigs and grass, often on islands or in trees. Both parents share the incubation, which lasts about 29-36 days. After hatching, the chicks are initially naked and are intensively cared for by their parents. The simple appearance of the egg contrasts with the elegance and size of the adult pelicans.
