Real Paradise Crane Bird Egg
Description
The paradise crane, also known as the blue crane, is the national bird of South Africa. It impresses with its grey-blue plumage, long flight feathers and its graceful appearance. These birds prefer to live in open grasslands and wetlands. Their diet consists of seeds, insects and small vertebrates. The paradise crane is considered a symbol of elegance and freedom, but is protected due to habitat loss.
The eggs of the blue crane are oval, cream to slightly greyish in colour and often speckled with small brown spots. A clutch usually contains 1-2 eggs, which are laid in a depression in the ground in tall grass or in sheltered areas. Both parents take part in the incubation, which lasts about 30 days. The camouflage colour of the eggs protects them from predators and underlines the adaptability of these majestic birds to their environment.
