Lynx canadensis

Description

The Canadian lynx is native to the vast forests of Canada and the northern United States. These impressive big cats are pure carnivores that feed mainly on small mammals and birds. Mountain hares in particular are among their preferred prey.

Although lynx are mostly considered solitary, they have occasionally been observed hunting in pairs or even small groups. While the Canadian lynx is considered territorial, the territories of females may overlap, while those of males are more fiercely defended.
