| Pipistrellus javanicus |
Genuine Java pipistrelle skeleton (in a glass dome)
Item Description
The Javan pipistrelle is one of the smallest bat species in Southeast Asia and impresses with its agility and adapted behavior in urban habitats. These tiny mammals weigh only about 3–5 grams and have a wingspan of around 18–24 cm – small enough to easily scamper through narrow crevices, roofs, or window frames.
Despite its small size, the Javan pipistrelle is an efficient insect hunter: it hunts at night using echolocation and thus plays an important role in natural pest control. It is particularly common in cities, where it hunts insects attracted by artificial light sources – an example of successful coexistence between humans and wildlife.
