Pipistrellus javanicus |
Real Javan Pipistrelle Bat Skeleton
Description
The Javan pipistrelle is one of the smallest bat species in Southeast Asia, impressing with its agility and adaptive behavior in urban habitats. These tiny mammals weigh only about 3–5 grams and have a wingspan of around 18–24 cm—small enough to easily zip through narrow crevices, roofs, or window frames.
Despite its small size, the Javan pipistrelle is an efficient insect hunter. It hunts at night using echolocation, thus playing an important role in natural pest control. It is particularly common in cities, where it hunts insects attracted by artificial light sources—an example of successful coexistence between humans and wildlife.
