The Flying Steamer Duck (Tachyeres patachonicus) is the smallest species of steamer duck and is found in South America and the Falkland Islands. Unlike some closely related species, it is capable of flight and inhabits coastal areas, estuaries, lakes, and lagoons. It gets its name from its characteristic movement on the water, where it resembles a historic steamboat with powerful wingbeats and paddling feet. The species primarily feeds on invertebrates, crustaceans, and other small aquatic animals.
