True vole skull
Description
Voles are small rodents that live primarily in meadows, fields, and gardens. They dig extensive tunnel systems and feed mainly on roots, tubers, and plant stems. Their bodies are compact, with short legs and a blunt head – perfectly adapted to life underground.
The skull of a vole strongly resembles that of a muskrat, albeit in miniature. Compared to other mouse skulls, it appears wider and larger overall, giving it a robust, solid appearance. Particularly striking are its strong incisors and short, stubby snout.
Specifications:
Skull length: 2.3 cm
Skull width: 1.3 cm
Skull height: 1.4 cm
