Description
The ostrich is the largest bird in the world and is native to parts of Africa. These flightless birds can reach an impressive size of up to 2.7 metres. Ostriches are predominantly herbivores, but occasionally supplement their diet with insects such as locusts. They are characterised by their territorial behaviour, with males often engaging in fights to defend harems of 3 to 5 hens.
