Real chamois skull
Item Description
The Alpine ibex (female, or "Steingeiss" in German) is an impressive wild animal of the Swiss Alps and the female form of the ibex. It lives in rocky, steep mountain regions above the tree line and is excellently adapted to the harsh alpine terrain. Compared to the male ibex, the female ibex is somewhat smaller and more slenderly built and has shorter, finer horns. Despite its elegant appearance, it moves with astonishing certainty and ease even on almost vertical rock faces. The Alpine ibex usually lives in small groups and spends the summer in high alpine regions. Like the ibex, it was once extinct in Switzerland but was successfully reintroduced thanks to successful reintroduction projects. Today, the Alpine ibex is emblematic of the beauty and wilderness of the Alpine world.
