Description
Antelopes are non-domesticated species of bovids native to some countries in Asia and large parts of Africa, which are not counted among the goats, sheep and cattle and are sometimes only distantly related to each other.
There are around a hundred species of antelopes, which vary greatly in appearance and size. Almost all antelopes have a slim and graceful body, fur in various shades of brown or grey with light vertical stripes and belly spots, and twisted or curved horns. In some species, only the males have horns.
They prefer to live in flat, bushy grasslands, steppes and savannas, which they roam in search of food. Their habitat and their characteristic appearance have earned them the nickname "deer of the savanna".
The antelopes include springboks, elands, Thomson's gazelles, blesboks, impalas, kudus and Dorcas gazelles.
