The roebuck is the male of the roe deer and is characterized by small, slender antlers that are shed and regrown annually. Roebucks prefer to live in forests, but also in open landscapes with sufficient cover. They are solitary or live in small groups and feed mainly on grasses, herbs, and shoots. They are particularly active at dusk. The antlers are primarily used for marking territory and for defense during the mating season.
