Description
The American opossum is widespread in North America. Its range extends from Central America and Mexico in the south, across the United States east of the Rocky Mountains to southwestern Ontario. These animals are characterized by their long head with a pointed snout and pronounced whiskers. All opossums have a long, prehensile tail with a scaly appearance. As omnivores, they have a varied diet that includes fruit, grain, insects and carrion.
