Real Marmot Skull
Description
The Alpine marmot (Marmota marmota) is a rodent of the Swiss Alps and lives at altitudes between 800 and 3,000 meters. It digs extensive burrows that provide protection and serve as a place of retreat for hibernation.
Marmots feed on grasses, herbs and roots and spend the summer building up fat reserves. They live in family groups and communicate by making shrill whistles to warn of danger.
The thick fur protects them from the harsh conditions of the mountains and is a symbol of the fascinating animal world of the Alps.
