The rhesus monkey is a medium-sized, highly adaptable monkey native to Asia. They live in large groups, exhibit complex social behavior, and are found in forests, cities, and even temples. Rhesus monkeys are omnivores and highly intelligent.

They play a major role in research—for example, in the discovery of the Rhesus factor in blood. Their reddish-brown fur, bare, pink rear ends, and strong social cohesion within the group are typical features.
