Real hedgehog skull
Description
What is special about shrews is that they have a completely different set of teeth than normal mice and no real incisors like rodents. Therefore, shrews do not belong to the rodent family, but rather, like hedgehogs and moles, are insectivores. If you compare the two skulls (mouse skull), you can clearly see that their set of teeth is completely different to that of normal mice.
Shrews are solitary animals that are active during the day and/or night. They have poor eyesight but can hear and smell very well. They are aggressive and some of them are poisonous. There are over 350 species of shrew, including field shrews, house shrews, garden shrews, forest shrews, mole shrews, water shrews and desert shrews.
