The green monkey lives in savannas, open woodlands, and scrublands south of the Sahara. Its grey-green fur, dark face with a white fringe of hair, and long tail make it easily recognizable. It is extremely adaptable and thrives in both wild areas and near human settlements.

Cercopithecus pygerythrus lives in social groups with complex hierarchies and sophisticated communication. Their diet consists of fruits, leaves, seeds, flowers, and insects. Particularly noteworthy are their high learning capacity and flexible behavior, making them one of the best-known guenon species in Africa.
