Real Giraffe Skull

Description
The giraffe is the largest living land animal on Earth, reaching impressive heights of up to 5.79 meters. As a symbol of the African savannah, it has perfectly adapted to life with its long neck and remarkable tongue. The giraffe feeds primarily on leaves inaccessible to other herbivores, using its dexterous tongue, which can be up to 50 cm long, to carefully pluck leaves from among the sharp thorns of trees.
Another fascinating feature of the giraffe is its ossicones – hump-like bony projections on the head covered with skin and hair, which grow steadily throughout their lives and are particularly strong in males.
In Switzerland, Kordofan giraffes are kept exclusively at Basel Zoo. Since 2011, Basel Zoo has replaced its former Masai giraffe breeding group with Kordofan giraffes and has been actively involved in breeding this rare subspecies ever since. A notable breeding success was the birth of the female giraffe calf Tufani on September 2, 2022. Tufani weighed approximately 60 kilograms at birth and was the fifth calf of the female giraffe Sophie.
