Acinonyx jubatus |
Real Cheetah Skull
Description
Native to the savannas of sub-Saharan Africa, the cheetah is considered the fastest land mammal in the world. With sprints reaching speeds of over 110 km/h, it is a master of close-range hunting. To escape the intense African heat, this diurnal species is primarily active in the early morning and late afternoon hours. The cheetah's diet consists mainly of small gazelles, monkeys, rabbits and other small vertebrates.
Interestingly, cheetahs were kept as pets and used for hunting in the Middle East almost 3,000 years ago – a testament to their extraordinary adaptability and elegance.
