Real European Elk Skull
Description
The European elk (Alces alces) is the largest species of deer in the world and lives in the colder regions of Europe, northern Asia and North America. Male elk have impressive antlers that can reach a span of up to 2 metres. Particularly large antlers are called shovel antlers and can weigh up to 20 kg, with a record weight of 36 kg.
Notably, female moose are one of the few deer species that also have small antlers. Bull moose use their antlers to intimidate other males and impress females. They shed their antlers in the winter to conserve energy, and new ones grow back in the spring.
