Real Beaver Skull
Item Description
The European beaver (Castor fiber) is the largest rodent in Europe and one of the best-known native mammals. It reaches a head-body length of about 80 to 100 cm and a tail length of up to 35 cm. Adult animals usually weigh between 18 and 30 kg.
Typical for the European beaver are its dense, water-repellent fur, strong gnawing teeth, and broad, flattened tail. Beavers prefer to live near rivers, lakes, and wetlands, where they build impressive dams and lodges with branches, mud, and wood.
The European beaver has spread significantly in many European countries in recent years. Its intensive construction activities sometimes lead to flooding and damage to water bodies, agriculture, and infrastructure. Since beavers were protected for a long time and have few natural predators, controlled population management measures have been introduced in some countries to maintain the balance between nature and humans.
