Description
Der Sikahirsch ist eine mittelgroße Hirschart aus Ostasien, die sich durch ihr rotbraunes Sommerfell mit weißen Flecken und das elegante Geweih der Männchen auszeichnet. Ursprünglich in Japan, China und Korea heimisch, wurde er erfolgreich in Europa, Neuseeland und Nordamerika eingeführt. Sikahirsche sind dämmerungsaktiv, ernähren sich von Gräsern, Blättern und Baumrinde und passen sich gut an verschiedene Lebensräume an. Während der Brunftzeit im Herbst stoßen die Männchen markante Rufe aus, um Weibchen anzulocken. Trotz ihrer Schönheit können sie in manchen Regionen als invasive Art gelten.
