Common Malachite Butterfly ( Victorina stelenes) This species is primarily found in Central and South America, from Mexico to the Amazon region. Its striking, greenish-shimmering wings with dark markings, reminiscent of malachite stone, are characteristic – hence the name.
The butterfly prefers to live in tropical forests and humid habitats. The caterpillars mostly feed on plants of the genus Ruellia.
