Common Malachite butterfly (Victorina stelenes) this species is found primarily in Central and South America, from Mexico to the Amazon basin. Characteristic features are the striking, shimmering greenish wings with dark markings, reminiscent of malachite stone – hence the name.

The butterfly prefers to live in tropical forests and humid habitats. The caterpillars mainly feed on plants of the genus Ruellia.
