Description
The red deer, colloquially known as the red stag and less commonly as the noble deer, is a species of true deer. Among the various deer species, the red deer is characterized by particularly large and widely branched antlers. These antlers, which are considered a sought-after hunting trophy, are only developed by male animals.
Young male deer whose antlers do not yet have any branches are called spikers. A deer with three ends on each antler is called a sixer, with four ends an eighter, and so on. A deer with at least three ends on each antler has a crown and is therefore called a crowned deer.
