Real fallow deer shovel pair capital
Description
Once a year, between early April and early May, the males shed their antlers (knobs), and new ones grow. While the new antlers are growing, they are covered in velvet. Once the antlers are fully grown, the velvet dies and hangs in shreds. The animals remove these shreds by rubbing their antlers against the branches of trees and bushes—a process called raking. This also changes the color of the antlers. They are light at first, but darken as a result of the plant sap.
