The fallow deer is a ruminant mammal belonging to the deer family (Cervidae) and a widespread species in Europe. The fallow deer (Dama), often referred to as fallow deer in hunting terminology, is a medium-sized deer species. Particularly characteristic are the impressive shovel-like antlers of the males and their spotted summer coat, which gives them a distinctive appearance.
