This pelvis comes from the skeleton of an average 5-year-old. The age was verified by the tooth eruption pattern and the developmental stage of the individual bones. Sex determination from skeletal material is based on changes in the skeleton that occur in the pelvic and cranial regions during puberty and, for this reason, have not yet begun in a 5-year-old. The pubic bone, ilium, and ischium are still completely separate, but the ischiopubic ramus is approaching the time of fusion (it fuses between 5 and 8 years of age).
