Real Camel Skull
Item Description
The skull of a true Bactrian camel, also known as a two-humped or Bactrian camel, is robust and shows adaptations to the harsh environment of Central Asia. The long jaws allow for chewing tough vegetation, and the enlarged nasal cavities filter dust and preserve moisture. Despite varying body sizes, the basic structure of the skull remains almost identical in all camelids, such as llamas, alpacas, guanacos, vicuñas, and dromedaries. This indicates their common evolutionary origin. Differences in the skull mainly reflect body size, while functionality remains largely constant. The Bactrian camel skull is an example of the adaptability of camelids to extreme habitats.
